The University of Colombo celebrates 25 years of formalized ICT education. The University’s pioneering and significant role in ICT education goes back as early as 1967. The establishment of the Department of Statistics and Computer Science (DSCS) took placed in 1985. In addition to introducing the first undergraduate degree in Computer Science in Sri Lanka, the department also had the first and only Masters programme in the field from 1989 till the turn of the millennium. With the merging of the DSCS with the industry oriented Institute of Computer Technology (also of the University of Colombo), to form the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) in 2002, ICT education at the University of Colombo reached a new level, taking the national effort at responding to global demands to a new height. Over the 25 years UCSC and its predecessors has produced over 2000 computing graduates, 1000 postgraduates, 5000 diploma holders and a very large number of certificate holders. more...
